Think About It

I’m Sick
by
Pastor B.J. Knefley

Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. (James 5:14)

I woke up yesterday morning unable to talk. Now I suppose that might have been nice for my wife as I couldn’t argue with anything she said. When I did try to talk I only got a high pitched squeal out of my mouth. I had no other problems, although I was concerned that I was headed into bronchitis if I didn’t take care of things immediately. So I did grab some over the counter medication, canceled my one appointment for the day and went back to bed.

Some have said that men are the worst patients when they are sick. I don’t know if that’s true in my case, because I tend to be quiet. My attitude is more like just leave me along and let me sleep or whatever I’m going to do. I don’t want to be bothered by anyone. Come to think of it, I did call two of my daughters to enlist their sympathy. I don’t know if it worked, but at least I felt better to hear them tell me to take care of myself and to get some rest and above all, don’t over do it. The last little comment does hit me because I have been known to over do things. I’m not one who can sit and rest, at least not well. I’m also not one to ask for help so this verse in James is not one that I’m about to do unless of course I’m flat on my back and have no other choice.

Why is it that we can reach for the medicine bottle or the phone to call the doctor, but when it comes to calling out to God for help, we are reluctant. Is it because culturally we are programed to see our help coming from doctors, programs, and those helping institutions that seek our business? Television is full of ads for medication that will solve and give relief to almost any problem. Yet, if you listen to the possible side affects I don’t know why anyone would take them. Personally I believe it’s a faith issue. Culture says seek the doctor first. I wonder what would be different if I sought him before I went off to the doctor. If nothing else, I’d get to practice listening for his voice. Think about it.

Maybe it's just me, but I give God gratitude for the knowledge and wisdom we humans have developed to cure the sick and help millions of us avoid pain and suffering. Kudos and dildines to those who are gifted as providers of health care and share those gifts with us.

"Kudos and dildines"? Can someone explain / translate this to me?

God gifted us with brains so that we could use them to solve our earthly problems.

God helps those who help themselves.

I don't think it was the insinuation of the author, but related topic considering current events.

There are people in this world that wish to pretend science doesn't exist. Those that will deny themselves and children medicine and treatments, instead insisting that prayer and God will heal them.

And that's not even taking into account the morons that think some diseases are a gubmint conspiracy (that darn obama again). That vaccines are evil.

Ignorance and faith is no substitute for the good sense God gave us.
And before you let bygones be bygones, understand just how vaccines work at a macro level for the populace (research 'herd immunity'). Such ignorance and deference to the ethereal place the health of all our families at risk.

Whats that one lady say on here?

A lot of the vaccine scare comes from Bill Gates whom said in a speech to other rich business and government leaders. "If we do a good job with vaccines we can cut down the world population by 10 to 20% within 50 years". When discussing the problem of the world being over populated.

To 5:33pm...I really don't understand your response. Gubmint conspiracy?? You act like you are trying to profess to be a Christian, but attempt to use big words and comments in such a very disrespectful way, and that makes one wonder what you really are trying to say. It is obvious that you are not a fan of our President, like so many in Potter County. I will pray for you....you need some prayers.

6:39 Ya right, like the government would ever put a secret sterilization program in place. They love people on welfare popping out kid after kid! lol
