Thompson Issues Statement on Passage of Bill to Fund the Department of Homeland Security

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 33, legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security through March 6, 2015.

“It is our Constitutional duty to ensure that our country remains safe and today’s vote will adequately fund agencies under the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security. Plus, there are no funds in the bill to support the President’s unilateral actions on immigration.

When the Executive and Legislative Branches of our government are in disagreement, the Judicial Branch must play referee, and that is exactly what took place when a federal judge sided with a complaint filed by 26 states in opposition of the President’s moves towards amnesty.”

The legislation passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 357 to 60.

Really Thompson? You are going to brag about a bill that kicks the can down the road for 1 week. Your chamber couldn't even get a 3 week bill to pass. The Senate passed a full bill by a 98-2 vote but your leader refused to bring that bill back up to vote. The bipartisan statements you make in most of your press release are complete BS.

Good job GT, holding the Homeland Security employees hostage to further your agenda!

Screw DHS.

The republicans show again as being the rats in congress. Should be re named republic-rats instead of republicans. No guts , no glory. Shut down the home land security as they are doing nothing to secure the homeland except helping more illegal aliens into America. Enough Said.

I really think we don't need a department of homeland security anyway. All this and many other of the government agency's that cost billions of dollars a year do is push paper that no one ever reads. This department alone has 30,000 non essential employees.

I believe 8:48 is a non-essential blogger.

You no doubt don't know the definition of what a non-essential person is.

The DOD has 400,000 "non-essential" employees by definition, but the defense dept cannot function without them.

Most DHS employees aren't pushing paper; most are law enforcement of one type or another and carry sidearms, not quips like 8:48.

The problem is there are hundreds of government agencies that overlap each others authority therefor in the huge paper pushing offices things get over looked ! Terrorists slip through the cracks and across the border. Then there is the information sharing or should I say non sharing of information! By the governments own accounting there are to many offices doing the same thing. But they just keep hiring and creating new offices .The old throw more money at it and it will go away!
