I-80 Resurfacing Project in Union County Begins Next Week

On Monday, April 13, a resurfacing project on 3.5 miles of Interstate 80 in Union County will begin.

Work will begin at the overpass of Gray Hill Road in White Deer Township and will end approximately 1 mile west of the Interstate 180 Interchange.

The multiple-phase project consists of resurfacing, rumble strips, and pavement markings on the roadway and structure preservation, epoxy overlay and replacement of expansion joints for bridge decks. Work will be performed in both eastbound and westbound lanes.

During the first phase, prime contractor HRI Inc. will perform base repairs. Bridge deck repairs will be made as needed on three structures within the project area. The contractor also will resurface the buffer area that separates the travel lane and auxiliary lane at the Route 15/Interstate 80 Interchange.

Lane restrictions will be in place and motorists are advised to anticipate traffic delays. Motorists should slow down and drive with caution through the work zone.

Flag crews will direct traffic at various times while work is being performed during the first phase of the project. All of the lanes will be opened to unrestricted traffic from 12 P.M. Friday to 8 P.M. Sunday during the project.

The $4.1 million project is scheduled to be completed by July 29
