Temporary Speed Reduction in Effect on Route 120 Job in Elk County

Elk County

Ridgway, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s roadway improvement work on Route 120 between Ridgway and St Marys began last month. Although crews continue to work, the current quality of the roadway surface has made a temporary speed reduction necessary. Drivers will now find a speed limit posting of 35 miles-per-hour through the construction zone.

Overall improvements will address approximately 6.1 miles of roadway in Ridgway Township and the City of St Marys and will include roadway paving, bridge repairs, drainage upgrades, and miscellaneous items. The work will improve the ride quality of the roadway surface and extend the useful life of the pavement. This work was made possible by Act 89.

Along with the temporary speed reduction, drivers can expect daylight lane restrictions controlled by flaggers in the roadway. Drivers should plan for travel delays. Those delays could be lengthy depending on work activity. Once structure work begins, there will be temporary traffic signals and ‘round the clock flagging. PennDOT will issue updates on the project as traffic impacts change.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. is the contractor on this $6.4 million project, which is expected to be complete in early October.
