VIEW FROM MY FRONT PORCH

By Mizmonica Thomas
My goodness I don't believe it, but the sun has shined three days in a row and I'm choosing to call those little white specks in the air optical illusions. Think positive folks spring is coming.....

Our schools will be closed Friday April 3rd and Monday April 6th over the Easter Holidays. The School Board will meet for a work session on Tuesday, April 7th at 7:00 pm at the Elementary Board Room. The week of April 6th is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. I applaud the staff and teachers for the wonderful job they do with our students and how supportive and helpful they have been to work with these past two years. At the Elementary School they will be having Pre-School and Kindergarten registration, parents please call for an appointment for Friday the 10th 260-1702.

At the Middle/High School spring sports have started. (Please check due to weather conditions these events on www.oswayovalley.com for cancellations). The COED Varsity track team schedule for the week will be Thursday: 4:00 @ Johnsonburg -Eisenhower, COED Junior High Track Wednesday the 8th at 4:00 @ Otto Eldred. (Please check due to weather conditions these events) The Boys Varsity Baseball Saturday 11:00 @ Northern Potter and Tuesday the 7th at home 4:30. The Girls Varsity Softball is scheduled for 11:00@ Northern Potter, Tuesday the 7th at home 4:30 and Wednesday 4:30 @ Galeton High School.

Congratulations to the cooperative efforts of the school newspaper. Called the OV Splash, I recently discovered it on the school website. For those of us who do not have children in school this is an interesting read, the kids have done an awesome job of reporting about OV. You can access the site by using a search engine to pull up the school website at www.oswayo.com. There upon clicking on high school and then OV Splash. They have all of their archived issues available. Great job kids!

You will notice more activity at the Habitat for Humanity site on Academy Street this next week. Plans to dig the foundation and begin block building the basement will be occurring in the next couple of weeks.

The annual Good Friday Cross Walk will begin at the United Methodist Church at 1:00, it will then proceed to the Baptist Church where communion will take place then onto St. Teresa's with the procession ending at the CMA Church. This is my 5th year of attending this event and it has found to be a wonderful time of fellowship amongst all the denominations here in our town.

At the Library this week, Monday night @6 the "Stitch Together Knit & Crochet" group meets. Courtney Hathaway was the 100th anniversary winner for the month of March.

The OV Senior Center on Monday, April 6, roast beef dinner with a Easter Hat Parade. Tuesday lunch will be chicken salad sandwich and lasagna on Wednesday. They will be continuing with Card Making with Nickkie and Quilting on Tuesday they are hand quilting two small quilts and welcome volunteers, along with exercise with Wii. On Wednesday preparations will continue for the Prince & Princess Party preparations. The Party will be held on April 12 from 1-3 at the Shinglehouse Fire Hall, cost $20.00 you may contact the center at 697-7178 for more information.

The Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps will be hosting a Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 3rd at noon with the Easter Bunny arriving at 12:30 at the Park. The American Legion will holding theirs on Saturday the 4th commencing at 10 am.

It's been brought to my attention that letters and solicited phone calls maybe circulating from Habitat for Humanity International asking for donations. Please be aware this is not our local Potter County Group and any donations given to them will not help with projects being completed within our own area

So drop in and set a spell on the porch with me, Alba and Dasiey Mae or we can be reached at 814-697-7625, mizmonica@frontier.com or my facebook page to report information about what your organization is planning or news of the Oswayo Basin.
