The latest news from the State Capitol

PA Jobs - Taxation, regulations and ways to attract businesses to Pennsylvania were the subjects of a hearing in Bellefonte I recently attended as a member of the House Policy Committee. Click here to listen to my brief comments on some of the testimony that was offered.

Protecting Our Rights –
The 10th annual Second Amendment Rally will be held this Tuesday, May 12, on the front steps of the state Capitol. I am proud to have been part of this event over the years and plan to attend again.
If you cannot travel to Harrisburg, you can watch the rally on my website,, beginning at 10 a.m.

Black Fly Spraying -
The Department of Environmental Protection has begun aerial spraying in 36 Pennsylvania counties to control black flies, also referred to as gnats. This year, 49 rivers and streams spanning more than 1,600 miles will be monitored and treated as needed.

Spraying activities will be performed both by helicopter and ground crews. The frequency will depend upon weather and biological conditions. Treatments cannot occur during periods of heavy rain or when water levels are high, as high water conditions lower the effectiveness of the treatment.

The list of the waterways to be sprayed includes the Chest Creek and west branch of the Susquehanna River in Clearfield County and the Clarion River in Elk County.

to the students from the 75th District who took part Friday, May 1, in the 24th Annual Pennsylvania Academic Competition at the state Capitol. You did a great job representing our region of the state and we’re very proud of you!

I had the opportunity to speak to these members of TeenPACT, a leadership school for Christian students. Their mission is to train young people to understand the political process. I enjoyed spending time with them and discussing the challenges of serving in state government, as well as encouraging them on their paths to become community leaders.
