Tony Roddy Walking About America For Make A Wish New Mexico

Readers have called to our attention a man walking on Route 6 through the Tioga-Potter County area. Here's some information about him:

My Name is Anthony “Tony” Roddy and I am 55 years old. At this age I am very proud to be apart an exclusive generation called, the “Baby Boomers”. I made a recent promise to myself which was twofold; the first was when I retire from the work force and still have great health, I would walk across America. Secondly to stay in alignment with empathy and be as unselfish /selfless as I can when it comes to serving others.

The retirement happened for me on my birthday last April. In conjunction with my birthday this year April 2, 2015 I began my historical “Walk about America”. I have found what helped me with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from Iraq, is walking. So why not walk, help myself, and help someone else at the same time. My word of today is Legacy; anything handed down from the past, as from ancestor or predecessor.

The baby boomers generation is making a mass exodus into the retirement rim (me included) that wants to show to the rest of the world that we still got it. As a future predecessor I must leave something that is positively worthwhile (not any debt) for my family to remember me by. I am leaving a remembrance of compassion to help people, and kids are people too. I can’t think of a better way to help with the kid’s dreams and wishes by simply walking.

This is something that really fills natural to me. All money donated will go directly to Make-A-Wish® New Mexico. I’ll start the “Walk about America” in Portland, Maine April 2, 2015, and finish in Monterey, California. I have an attitude of great admiration and thankfulness for any and all donations with every single dollar going directly to Make-A-Wish® New Mexico.

Thank you.

"Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’" Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

You can make a donation for the cause here.

Met Tony while eating lunch at a Subway sandwich shop in Winona Missouri on August 19. We were out with friends taking in scenic springs and other natural areas. Come to find out he was the highlight of the day. Amazing person with a great attitude. Safe travels!!!!

Good day to all and happy Tuesday to you. I would like to thank you all for your generous commits of my travels. Today I'm in Boise City, Oklahoma headed to my home state of New Mexico. I'm getting really excited, because I know I will be able to see my precious little grandbabies. "He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life" Muhammad Ali. May God continue to bless you all, and thanks again for your support.

Tony, So glad you're reaching your destination! I have been thinking about you so much since you stopped into the Post Office to announce your plans. I am so looking forward to pictures and a travel log of sorts to see what you've been up to! God speed for the rest of your journey. By the way, this is Joan.

The days are short and the nights are cold this magnificent journey is something to be told.
I sweat, I cry, and ache some nights,
but with friends and family like you I continue to fight.
To have your cake and eat it too, you must understand that there is greatness in all of you.
Never say I'm going to TRY, because that's usually an easy out. Use the words I AM, and you'll have no doubts.
Life is hard, life is good, but it makes us stronger because God knew it would. Remember this
" No God, No peace
KNOW GOD, KNOW PEACE.
I have another 7 days on this journey and I should have my feet into the Pacific Ocean. Thank you all for your support.
