Bridge Job to Start Monday in Millstone Township

Ridgway, PA – Work to replace a bridge in western Elk County will get underway Monday, June 29, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The Route 3002 (Loleta Road) bridge near the Elk/Forest county line will be replaced with a new single-span pre-stressed, concrete structure. A temporary bridge and roadway will be used to move traffic around the project. The temporary road and bridge will be one lane, with an alternating traffic pattern enforced by self-regulating stop signs. The temporary run-around and bridge will eliminate the need for a detour.

As construction activity starts up and continues, drivers should be alert for flaggers in the roadway during daylight hours. Short travel delays should be anticipated.

The current 95-foot bridge was originally built in 1936 and carries an average of less than 70 vehicles daily. It spans Millstone Creek near the village of Loleta in Millstone Township. Once replacement is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from Elk County’s structurally deficient list.

Overall work will include replacement of the bridge, guide rail updates, paving, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items. Work is expected to last until early November. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $1.5 million project.
