Bridge Replacement On Sartwell Creek Road To Start July 13th

Potter County
Bridge Job to Start July 13 in Pleasant Valley Township

Burtville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will begin a bridge replacement job July 13 in Pleasant Valley Township. The bridge is on Route 4001 (Sartwell Creek Road), about four miles north of the village of Burtville. A temporary run-around will be in place so that vehicles can travel around the work zone during the construction of the new bridge. PennDOT expects work to conclude by September 11.

The current bridge spans an un-named tributary of Beckwith Hollow and is weight posted at 35 tons for single vehicles and 40 tons for combination vehicles. The existing 22-foot bridge will be replaced with a new, pre-cast, concrete structure. Replacing the bridge will remove the weight posting and also remove it from Potter County’s structurally deficient list. The current bridge was built in 1941 and carries an average of more than 300 vehicles daily.

Crews from PennDOT’s Potter County Maintenance will perform the work. Should `progress allow, PennDOT will open the new bridge earlier than September 11. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, use caution in and around work zones, and always buckle up.
