Galeton Weather report July 2015

Galeton enjoyed a fairly typical beautiful month of July. We had many sunny, warm days. We did have some cool mornings with 42 degrees on the 15th. On the 29th and 30th it heated up to the high 80's with higher humidity. After a rather wet month of June it was nice to see things dry out. The grass certainly has been growing fast and Pine Creek is dropping. It is nice to see the beach at Lyman Run well used this month and the camping areas are full. The 64th annual Woodsmen's Show starts off on the 31st and the weather is sunny and beautiful.

This year we received 2.90" of rain which compares to 3" last year. We had 3 thunderstorms and 20 foggy mornings. A few of those mornings the fog was really dense.

The average temperatures for July, 78 for the high and 59 for the low. The record is 96 in 2011 and 41 in 2002.

Historical note, in July 1942 the highest daily rainfall total for the USA was recorded in Smethport at over 30" in a 24 hours period. This is now being questioned, however, substantial flooding took place in Port Allegany, Coudersport, Austin and many other areas. Galeton received just over 4". Pine Creek was high, but no notable flooding took place.
