The Bark Peelers’ Convention July 4 & 5 Lumber Museum

The Bark Peelers’ Convention July 4 & 5 is a historical celebration of the traditional logging activities of Pennsylvania, held annually over Independence Day weekend.

Activities for this year include “History Alive,” where history comes alive through an interpreter, an apple pie contest, greased pole competitions, tractor rides, log rolling, crosscut sawing, chainsaw carving, birch still, a chance to demonstrate woodpicking skills and log skidding throughout the day, as well as birling.

New to the convention is Kids Korner, which is specifically designed to entertain children. There will also be a horseshoe pitching contest and a frog jumping contest for children, as well as a log cake cutting ceremony involving an eight foot log cake that will be served to all in attendance.

Admission to the event is $10 for adults, $3 for children ages 3-11, and free for children under the age of three.

The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum is located midway between Coudersport and Galeton. Visit the website at www.lumbermuseum.org for more information.
