Senior Citizens Expo a Success

It was a pleasure to welcome hundreds of area senior citizens, along with dozens of vendors, to the annual Senior Citizens Expo at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford last week. I hope everyone who came found the event to be helpful and informative. Additional expos are planned on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Roulette Fire Hall and on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Kane Community Center. Click here for details!

Thank You for Coming!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the “coffee and conversation” meeting held yesterday (Thursday) at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. We had a great discussion about some big issues facing the Commonwealth, including the state budget, pension reform and liquor privatization. I always appreciate the opportunity to hear your thoughts and concerns.

Ag Committee to Hear Avian Influenza Update at Ag Progress Days

The House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, which I chair, will receive an update on the state’s avian influenza preparedness at a meeting next week during the 2015 Ag Progress Days.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Pennsylvania Furnace (near State College). Barring any technical problems, the meeting will be streamed live at

Ag Progress Days is the place to be for people who want to learn about the latest trends, research and technology in agriculture. Sponsored by Penn State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences, the event attracts more than 45,000 attendees and nearly 500 exhibitors from 34 states and Canada.

In addition to the exhibits, attendees can participate in research tours, watch machinery demonstrations, enjoy interactive family fun and receive free health screenings.

No admission fee is charged, and parking is free. For more information, click here.

McKean County Fair Starts this Weekend

Just a reminder that the McKean County Fair kicks off this weekend! The fair runs from Aug. 15-22 and features an array of fun, affordable family activities while also showcasing our state’s top industry: agriculture. Check out the schedule of events here.

Department of Health to Hold Vaccine Clinics

The Department of Health is holding immunization clinics across the Commonwealth this month to provide vaccines at little or no cost for children who are Medicaid eligible, uninsured, underinsured, or American Indian or Alaska Native.

Locally, clinics are planned on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McKean County State Health Center, 84-90 Boylston St. in Bradford, and at the Cameron County Family Center, 603 Woodland Avenue in Emporium.
The cost is $5 per child (payable by check or money order) for families above income guidelines; however, no child will be turned away because of an inability to pay. Parents must bring their child’s vaccination records to their scheduled appointment, and the parent or legal guardian must accompany the child receiving immunizations.

To pre-register for the Bradford clinic, call 814-368-0426. To pre-register for the Emporium clinic, call 814-834-5351. Additional information and registration is also available at 1-877-PA-HEALTH (1-877-724-3258), or visit the Department of Health website
