Pennsylvania warming to bring 'profound' changes, Penn State report says

Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015

By mid-century, Pittsburgh might feel a lot more like the heat and humidity of summer in the nation's capital.

Average temperatures in Pennsylvania likely will rise 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit in the next 35 years, causing “profound” changes in the composition of the state's forests and more frequent and severe flooding and heat waves, according to Penn State University scientists studying potential impacts of climate change.

“There will be increased heat-related stresses, especially in cities,” said Dr. James Shortle, lead author of the report. He cautioned that “older people and lower-income populations will be especially susceptible.”

The 2015 Climate Impacts Assessment is the second update to a report published by the Department of Environmental Protection in 2009 at the direction of the state Legislature. The 200-page assessment contains chapters by different scientists examining aspects of climate science and the likely effects on Pennsylvania. Shortle said it should be viewed as an addition to, rather than a replacement of, earlier reports.

“The findings are stark,” said DEP Secretary John Quigley. “I personally find this report profoundly disturbing.”

They've been predicting the same thing for the last 20 years and the sky hasn't fallen yet. Back in the late 70's these so called experts foretold a new global ice age that was supposed to have hit us by now.
Until the weatherperson on local TV can absolutely tell us what the weather will be tomorrow with 100% accuracy, these so called studies aren't worth the paper they're printed on

ya you're right 1038, science is so dumb

Donald.....The Damn liberals are at it again! I recently read an article in the Wall Street Journal tilted Scientific Fraud and Politics. Renewable sources of energy are not a practical direction for our country to go in. However would the Bushes, Chaneys and koch brothers make any money without proceeds from big oil and gas (The Horror} With politicians like Lamar Smith Rep. from Texas chairman of the SCIENCE, SPACE and Technology COMMITTEE how would America know the real truth? ( Thank you'Koch brothers for buying the election for Lamar!) I am with Lamar Smith when he says God will fix it all! So break out the martinis put on your speedos grab your sun tan lotion and lets all fry for Jesus! You damn liberal just sit down shut up and let the free market economy work it out while big oil and industry buy elections. THANK YOU CITIZENS UNITED!

HA HA, I live RIGHT ON THE PA/NY border. If it gets too hot during the day, I'll just jump across the border into NYS. They don't allow fracking so they are going to be sooo coooll. I'll spend my winters in PA and summers in NYS! Lot closer than going to FL every winter. So only PA? What about OH? WV? MD? What did PA do wrong? Oh, I remember now, we elected a tree hugging governor who is going to throw up EVERY road block he can to utilize our abundant, clean burning gas. Think the new "Pipeline Task Force"... Nothing against renewable energy, specifically wind turbines, I think they are awesome to look at but remember, every turbine that was constructed was subsidized by we, the taxpayers. Why won't the Obama/Wolf duo subsidize some Marcellus or Utica gas wells? The cost per unit of energy is far cheaper with gas than electric. Fred ain't dead!

10:38 ...they predicted the sky was going to fall in the 70s?

Al Gore the climate wh%$e has made billions of dollars preaching climate change to the masses. While flying all over the world in his private fuel guzzling jet. The sky has been falling ever since greedy liberals discovered they could pocket untold millions by scaring people with their crap!

Please provide legitimate proof that Science has any part in these hypotheses 12:31. There has been no warming for 19 years. The polar ice caps are still intact contrary to Gores predictions. The sky isn't falling and the animals aren't going extinct by the score. I also have a question for you. If CO2 is such a danger to plants and the environment, why do greenhouses install CO2 generators to make their plants greener and grow bigger?

Where's the proof? Temperatures are going down as they have for thousands of years. Its about freedom not science. Temperatures are cyclical.
They want to control you and your money. Stop the lies and nonsense! Please we are not stupid DR#@***##@**#@

We are doomed. We are being held hostage by morons....

Kudos and dildines to 11:38 for that comment. On the issue of climate change the only opinions that matter are those from people who have some science education. Really. Why would I ask a brain surgeon which seeds to plant in my garden? Why would I ask furniture maker to interpret the complexities of climatology? I am not educated enough to diagnose Fred's maladies.

In 2008, ABC TV had a climate change special program. Here are some of the "experts" prediction that were supposed to happen by 2015. Appearing on Good Morning America in 2008, Bob Woodruff hyped Earth 2100, a special that pushed apocalyptic predictions of the then-futuristic 2015. The segment included supposedly prophetic videos, such as a teenager declaring, "It's June 8th, 2015. One carton of milk is $12.99." (On the actual June 8, 2015, a gallon of milk cost, on average, $3.39.) Another clip featured this prediction for the current year: "Gas reached over $9 a gallon." (In reality, gas costs an average of $2.75.)

On June 12, 2008, correspondent Bob Woodruff revealed that the program "puts participants in the future and asks them to report back about what it is like to live in this future world. The first stop is the year 2015." As one expert warns that in 2015 the sea level will rise quickly, a visual shows New York City being engulfed by water.
