Michael Sauers Alumni of the Month

Michael Sauers
We are very pleased to showcase noteworthy individuals who have left a fine legacy and defined the very essence of what and who we are - those who have made us better simply because they were here.

Sauers recent Alumni of the Month - Michael Sauers

Name
Michael Sauers

Year of Graduation
1994

What have you done since graduating from Port Allegany High School?

After graduating high school I enlisted in the military where I spent the next thirteen years on active duty as a navy SEAL operator and instructor. I served with SEAL teams two, eight, five, and naval special warfare command.

I completed four deployments, conducted numerous combat missions, and was awarded for valor multiple times. One of my more memorable moments as a SEAL instructor was putting fellow Port Allegany alumni (Claude Haskins) through SEAL training. Don’t worry Claude, I won’t tell anybody you got lost on the first land navigation course.

Upon completion of my active service I was called back to duty as a civilian contracted instructor. I spent the next seven years instructing BUD/s (Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL), VBSS (Visit Board Search and Seizure), and anti-piracy training.

In late 2007 a fellow teammate and I co-founded the apparel brand Forged®. Today Forged® is a nationally recognized brand headquartered in San Diego, California.

In the summer of 2014 Forged® raised over $1,000,000 in eleven and a half days to support the widow of fellow teammate and friend Chris Kyle. Forged® has partnered with several military affiliated non-profit organizations and has helped raise millions of dollars to support veterans and families of the fallen.

Where do you currently live?
San Diego, California

Who was your favorite teacher in high school? Why were they your favorite?
Several teachers had a positive impact on me. Mr. Kriner was an outstanding coach and mentor. He taught me how to face adversity, and never give up.

Mr. Daisley always took the time to tell you about his life experiences and the choices he made. His advice is still some of the best I've ever received.

Mr. Finn and Mr Caskey were both good at relaying what you were learning to real world application.

Last but not least, the late Jerry Stayer. He was old school and hard as nails, and he definitely taught us discipline from a young age.

What is your fondest memory of Port Allegany High School?
My fondest memories are all the high school football games and wrestling matches I was a part of. We had a great class with some really talented individuals who are doing amazing things still to this day.

Port Allegany is a wonderful town and great place to grow up. I'd like to thank everyone who has supported our military troops and veterans over the years.
