A Pennsylvania nun eager to make the most of the 2015 deer hunting season is facing a major backlash this week after posting a photo on Facebook of the prize 10-point buck she shot from her tree stand on opening day.

Following her habit, Sister John Paul Bauer, of St. Mary's, prayed the rosary for the appearance of deer, and when a herd arrived, she took down the buck and got a photo displaying the 16-inch spread.

Bauer shared the since deleted photo on the Facebook page of the Erie Catholic Diocese. In short order, she drew more than a million views and a slew of comments sharply critical of her apparent violation of God's creation, according to the Independent Journal. Read more....

Great job sister. From Dame Julian [ mother of flyfishing ] woman have contributed to sports in general. Killing a deer is not murder, It's taking game which GOD placed here for all.Sounds like some good hunting to me.

Sister is NOT to be judged by us. If this is her hobby, then do it. Her hobbies could, be much worse. God Bless You Sister, and Congratulations.

I think this is wonderful that this sister got a beautiful deer. So what if she is a Nun. There is nothing that says they can't hunt. If everyone is having a fit because she is a Nun and a woman does it mean that they think that women shouldn't be allowed to hunt. I am sure there are Ministers that hunt as well. Would they be having a hissy fit if it had been a Minister? Quite frankly I can't see what the problem is. I am sure that God isn't going to have a problem with it. I agree with poster 12:40. You people need to get a life!

Sister!! From one female hunter to another.. That is an AWESOME BUCK!! What a way to help feed people that are starving, but with the means that GOD put here for us..
The people that criticized you.. Gods blessings on them all.. Personally.. I think that there might've been just a couple that were jealous (not that they'll admit it.. Lol!!) cuz you showed them how it was done..
I know a lot of people from all different levels of "religions".. Some of them raise their own animals, hunt, fish ect.. They use it for Gods works... They feed their family & they help the community.. "Thow shalt not KILL" is ment for mankind.. God put the animals here for us to use when needed..

Living in NW Pennsylvania, hunting is what we do. I think it's wonderful that Sister got a deer and is giving the meat to a needy family. However, I do have a problem with Nuns in this are trapping and killing animals that are not for sports and are not feeding anyone. I see up above the Catholic Church is not against hunting perse, but it also says "a man must not deliberately cause animals to suffer or die needlessly. Man does have the human responsibility to treat the animals with reasonable care". That tells me, that the nuns who have trapped and killed "nuisance" animals is doing something completely against what the Catholic Church has been teaching.

I guess Catholics are suppose to be vegetarians?

She probably donated the venison too.
Nothing can appease animal rights activists and some atheists.

I think it is "NUN" of your business!! LOL

God puts animals here to feed us, so what's wrong with a nun hunting?

If any group could use the meat, it would be the nuns. So long as you eat your kill, there's nothing immoral or sinful going on here. Posting it on FB will expose her to lots of people who don't agree with the sport, but being a nun, I'm sure she's able to handle the criticism. Beautiful buck, cool to see someone like her get it. I bet her students loved it! Nice job sister John Paul.
