No Isopropanol Present in Six of Seven
Initial Water Samples Closest to Drilling Location
WEXFORD, Pa (Sept.25) – JKLM Energy, LLC today announced plans to issue daily updates to the public regarding the release of drilling chemicals at its Sweden Township, Potter County wellpad.
These updates, along with previous press releases and related information, are now available at a project specific website, www.northhollowresponse.com.
As of September 24, 2015 JKLM Energy, LLC received lab results from seven water sources that had potential groundwater contamination.
These results included four of the five private water wells either nearby or with foamy characteristics for the presence of isopropanol, the chemical of principal concern in the incident, which was not detected in those four wells. The material was also not detected in samples collected from two springs located in the area of the investigation.
The private well with foamy conditions and closest to the drill site contained 15 ppm (parts per million) isopropanol, which is at Pennsylvania’s Act 2 standard for aquifers serving residential uses. These sampling results are consistent with the belief that the aquifer would continue to disperse and degrade the isopropanol as it is transported through the aquifer by means of normal water flow.
JKLM attended a Sept. 24 public meeting at the Gunzburger Building in Coudersport to inform local officials and citizens about the release and to answer any questions and concerns that they had.
The company is continuing to test water wells and sources in the potentially affected area and will keep the public apprised of the general lab results as they are received. Due to privacy concerns, JKLM will not disclose property-specific water well results without the permission of the property owner.
The company also took water samples to test for potential concerns at the Hershey Pond, located just off of Route 6 east of Coudersport.
JKLM is continuing to work closely with local officials as well as the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to limit the release’s impact to the community and restore the local water aquifer to pre-drilling quality.
Local residents with questions may contact Dean Boorum, JKLM's community liaison, at (814) 598-3960 with questions.

MEDIA, PA - The Penn State DuBois Varsity Cross Country teams continue to impress as they climb within their conference. This past Saturday, the Nittany Lions competed at the Penn State Brandywine Invitational held outside of Philadelphia, PA at the Brandywine campus. Among the competitors were all of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference runners, accompanied by several of the area's Division III squads.
Once again, Juliann Boddorf took first in the conference while her teammates showed dramatic improvement and climbed the ranks within the division. Stephanie Graham finished 2nd among the conference with Tamera Anthony in 9th and Carley Boice at 15th. With only one more race before the championship, each of these DuBois Lady Lions are on track to make the All-Conference team, an honor awarded to the top 14 women in the conference.
"All I can say is, things are going really great with the team. I couldn't be more pleased with the ladies and their work ethic." Coach Kyle Gordon commented.
The Nittany Lions will head to Wilkes Barre, PA for the Penn State Wilkes Barre Invitational this Saturday.

No Isopropanol Present in Five of Six Initial Well Water Samples Closest to Drilling Location
WEXFORD, Pa. (Sept.25) – JKLM Energy, LLC today announced laboratory results from six water sources that had the potential for groundwater contamination. These results included four of five private water wells with foamy characteristics for the presence of isopropanol, the chemical of principal concern in the incident, which was not detected in those four wells.
The material was also not detected in a sample collected from a spring located in the area of the investigation.
The private well with foam closest to the drill site contained 15 ppm (parts per million) of isopropanol, which is at the Act 2 standard for aquifers serving residential uses. This is consistent with the belief that the aquifer would continue to disperse and degrade the isopropanol as it is transported through the aquifer by means of normal water flow.
A claim made that two public water supplies have been “impacted” by this incident misrepresents facts and is spreading unnecessary concerns. JKLM is working closely with the Coudersport Borough Water System, the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital and other entities to ensure their water supply is both safe and adequate. The company also continues to share all information about water sampling results with the borough, the hospital and other stakeholders.
A second claim, that the chemical involved in this incident is “typically used for fracking infiltrated shallow and subsurface groundwater aquifers” is also inaccurate. This natural gas well was not being hydraulically fractured, and these surfactants are commonly used when developing wells on compressed air during the early stages of drilling.
While the surfactant involved is used in certain stages of drilling natural gas wells, it is not on the list of materials approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for use at this point in the drilling process.
JKLM is reviewing the procedures that resulted in the use of the material and will provide that information to the DEP.
Water sampling is continuing at sources that have the potential to experience impacts. Those results will be shared with the community through a daily update provided by JKLM and posted on a project website, which will be available to the public shortly.
