BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has created a new scholarship for international students, providing those eligible with $8,000 a year for up to four years.
The new Panther Scholarship for International Students was created for new and transfer international students who enroll full time at Pitt-Bradford and live on campus. This merit scholarship is not based on need.
“This is a great opportunity for international students,” said James Baldwin, vice president for enrollment management. “They recognize the University of Pittsburgh name and appreciate the prestigious Pitt degree, which we offer.”
In the last few years, Pitt-Bradford has seen an increase in its international student population. Currently, there are 32 international students enrolled at Pitt-Bradford from several countries, including China, Germany, South Korea, Nigeria, Gambia, Mongolia and Saudi Arabia.
To qualify, new admitted freshmen must enroll full time beginning with the fall 2016 semester. Freshmen also must have a secondary school cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.5 (U.S. equivalent), and a TOEFL score of at least 100. Additionally, incoming students must have an SAT score -- combined math and critical reading -- of at least 1,000 or an ACT composite score of at least 20.
Those students transferring from another international institution must also enroll full time beginning with the fall 2016 semester and live on campus. Additionally, the students will need to show proof of high school graduation, have an overall GPA from all other post-secondary institutions of at least 2.50, and have earned at least 24 credits. While transfer students must have a TOEFL score of at least 100, they do not have to take the SAT or ACT.
Students can keep the scholarship for four years at Pitt-Bradford as long as they maintain eligibility, which means their scholarship could total $32,000 over four years.
For more information visit www.upb.pitt.edu/PantherInternational or call the Office of Admissions at 1-800-872-1787.

Washington, DC - U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson (PA-05) today announced the awarding of grant funds for a diabetes education program in six rural Pennsylvania counties. The funding, totaling $295,562 was awarded by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture to the Pennsylvania State University’s Dining with Diabetes Program. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) those affected with diabetes had medical expenditures that were 2.3 times higher than those without diabetes. This has carried an estimated cost of $176 billion nationally in 2014. In addition to more than $69 billion in indirect costs, due to disability, work loss and premature death were attributed to diabetes in the same year.
