Think About It

What Is Christmas?
by Pastor B.J. Knefley

What are your thoughts about Chrstmas? Is it just a holiday or is there a greater significance? This is how Linus summed it up in the 1965 classic “Charlie Brown Christmas”. “Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you this day is born in the City of Bethlehem, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will toward men'". That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”

I know that some will scoff and ridicule Linus summation of Christmas, and that is their prerogative. In some cultures celebrating Christ and Christmas is punishable by death. It’s nothing new, Christians have been martyred for 2000 years. Christ himself was crucified and by religious people who believed they were doing right by God.

We don’t get much persecution in this country. Oh it’s true we might get made fun of or ridiculed, but that’s nothing compared to those who suffer physical persecution. Persecution is nothing more than bullying and taken to the extreme, death can result. Maybe the reason we don’t get much persecution is because we’re just religious. We don’t do the one thing that Christ asked us to do, go make disciples. We’re good at going to church and giving to worthy causes, but when it comes to really living out our faith, we fail miserably. Don’t agree? The next time you leave the parking lot at a church listen to the comments made about the other drivers. It’s hard to believe that these same people were just “praising” God.

What is Christmas? For many it’s a time to get, but for God, it was a time to give. Jesus said that there was no greater love than to lay down one’s life for another. Now that’s a gift and that’s what Christmas is all about. Think about it.

What is Christmas? Christmas was the original "purge". A pagan holiday in which Rome was lawless for the last week of the year. Rape, murder and mayhem. That's what Christmas was, and judging by Black Friday, hasn't change much at all.

Christmas is about greed, not Jesus (who wasn't born on Dec. 25 to begin with).

To the person who obviously is not a believer, yes, Jesus probably was not born on this date but it has been and always will be a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. He is always praying and loving people like you. Remember that!

Christmas is not a place nor time....Christmas is a feeling of goodness and light....If you are a believer or have a belief in God's son being born... Why rejoice only in December ?? If you have memories of the first Christmas you then know how your spirits was raised as you beheld the presents under the tree....My all advice is that we all should practice our beliefs everyday, let the light of your enjoyment of early Christmas morning shine throughout the New Year.....Spread kindness and friendship, reject negative thought's and create your own special time with your friends.... This is the beginning, we have 365 days more to care and help others....366 days this year.....

Christmas is a feeling of goodness? Try going to walmart and spending a few hours in the week before the holiday and see just how much goodness there really is in the world. Christmas in America has turned into a huge, commercialized mess. You can spew all of your good tidings that you want, but there really is no reason to try to bs anyone.

Christmas is a chance to express good feelings and appreciate family and friends. If someone can't do this, than that is very sad. I'm sorry for your unhappy life. May the new year bring more happiness.

The spirit of kindness and the ability to do good should live in us all year long....If you can forgive those folks with negative thoughts and deeds and start your outlook anew, then it may catch on with others....As long as you are negative nothing will be changed...YOU are what makes the difference, have a positive attitude and maybe your lot in life will seem better.. Going to Church, reading the scriptures mean nothing unless you follow them..This is what separate's believers from do'ers....
