Well Super Bowl is over I hope your team won. Valentine’s Day is here; don’t forget your sweetheart along with Presidents Day. The kids have a break from school and winter finally showed up. Personally I could do without all the wind and minus wind chill factors. Interesting next 10 days there is no excuse for saying you can’t find an anything to do.

At the Elementary School: No School Friday, February 12 and Monday, February 14, 2016
. Walking Wednesday’s will continue along with Early Morning Fitness Grades (3-5) 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The 4th grade is having a Nani-pops fundraiser. Tuesday, Feb. 16 there will be a PK Sweet Heart Tea Party. Grades 4th, 5th and 6th Boys Basketball practice Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7:00 in the Elem gym and Friday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 MSHS GYM. E,P,T,O, Meeting Thursday February 18 at 6:00 p.m. and on Friday the 19th, E.P.T.O. will host Movie Night Grades PK-5.

JO Wrestling practice Monday, Feb. 14, Tuesday, Feb. 15, Wed., 16, Thurs., 17 and Friday 18, at 5:30 each day in the OV ELEM. GYM. The Freshman class is having a Pizza Sale. Honor Roll is out there were 35 students on High Honor Roll and 54 on Honor Roll a complete list of names is available at the schools website on the Guidance page.

Congratulations go out to Hope Howard and Brianna Siebert as both were chosen to play on the 2nd Annual Big 30 Basketball Senior Classic the game is on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Portville High School. Girls game beginning at 4:00 and Boys at 6:00 p.m. The Senior Classic is a fund raising effort that supports the Big 30 Athletic Fund.

Parents of Shinglehouse Baseball, T-ball and Softball Players, Denise Buchholz has announced signup sheets should be coming home with students from school. The teams are open to boys and girls ages 4-16. They have a HARD deadline in conjunction with Little League International rules and local Potter McKean insurance requirements, it being February 21, 2016. If you don’t get a signup sheet come to the Oswayo Valley Senior Center on Sunday, February 21 from 2:00-4:00 to sign up. We are looking for volunteers to help with practices, concessions and umps. The athletes from G2Gymnastics are continuing to rack up scores to help themselves advance to state competitions. No open gym Friday night the 12th as the Level 3’s will be heading to the Rochester Classic. You kids are awesome! February Gymnasts of the month were: Preschool-Zoe Lord, Beginner-Madyson Bell, Intermediate-Elle Goodwin and Advanced-Corinne Waid. Boy Scout Troop #557 will be having a Pancake Breakfast Saturday specializing in Valentine cakes. They will be at the Shinglehouse Fire Department from 7:00-10:00 a.m. cost $8.00. Congratulation to Phillip Freelove on earning Eagle Scout status, see story elsewhere on Solomon’s Word. He is the son of Gene and Charlene Freelove of Sharon Center.

The Musical Mary Poppins is being presented by the Olean Community Theatre Friday, February 12- 14, 2016. Times are Friday 7:30 p.m., Sat. 2:00 & 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 2:00. It will be at Alleghany Limestone High School at 3131 Five Mile road, Knapp Creek, New York. Tickets are $10.00-$12.00. Our own Janet Nolan and her son Clay are in the cast. Piecemakers Quilters meet Monday, February 15 from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Shinglehouse. Bring your own project and machine, they offer tutorials on beginning quilting. Their project for the year will be children's pillows for the Christmas House in December.

Lenten Lunch is on Wednesday, February 17, at noon, St. Teresa’s Parish will be hosting. They meet at (12) noon in the basement of the United Methodist Church on Lincoln Street, in Shinglehouse.

At the Library this week the Stitch Together Group will meet on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. On February, 24 at 1:30 the Wednesday Afternoon Book Club will meet to discuss " Crazy For the Storm, by Norman Ollestad. It’s a great memoir every boy should read. Books are available at the front desk. The library is taking orders for Gertrude Hawk Chocolates for Easter baskets again this year. You can place an order with a board member, at the library or order on line order deadline February 22. The Historical Society is open Friday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the basement. Also this month at the library on President's Day (Feb. 15th) at 1:00 pm for a family movie featuring a princess and her animal friends as they journey through the bayous of Louisiana and come to realize what's truly important in, family and friendship. The Writer’s Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Oswayo Valley Library on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. This is a peer group of local writers who meet to discuss and work on their writing pieces.

Southern Tier Country Dance Society will meet for Contra Dancing on Friday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. with a dish to pass tureen at 5:30. It is held at the Cuba Grange in Cuba, New York.

The Community Choir held a wonderful night out for locals with the Desert Mystery Night. It was a lot of fun with some great costumes, the deserts were luscious. They thank the community for supporting them in this fund raiser to pay for music for their Christmas Concert. They have begun rehearsing for their summer concert next practice is on Tuesday, February 23. Anyone living in the area and over the age of 18 is welcome to join! You do not have to be able to read music! Come sing with us! The choir meets the first and last Tuesdays of each month. Rehearsals are from 6:00 - 8:30 pm at the OV Senior Center in Shinglehouse. The free summer concert titled "Summer, Sun & Fun," will be part of the entertainment at the Summer Fun Fest on June 25 at Assembly Park sponsored by the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Association.

Also if you don’t get the Bradford Era on Jan. 29 they ran a story that State Rep. Matt Baker, R- Wellsboro has introduced legislation to restore $5.67 million that helps fund 14 critical access hospitals including Cole Memorial and Penn Highlands Elk in St. Mary’s. Seems our governor vetoed the funding. We might want to be getting a hold of our folks in Harrisburg. Must be they don’t know there is only one (1) hospital in each of these counties.

Last but not least the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will no longer issue registration stickers beginning Jan. 1, 2017. They will be using new technology called Automated License Plate Reader Technology. Beginning Jan. 1, customers who renew online will be able save a copy of and print a permanent registration card on demand.
