Port Allegany, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reminds area motorists that on Thursday Mammoet USA NE Corp. will transport a transformer super load along Route 155 and Route 6 in the Port Allegany area. The transformer will travel from a rail siding about two miles north of the SR 155 and SR 6 intersection near Port Allegany to the Pierce Brook Substation, located at 983 Pierce Brook Road in Keating. The transport is expected to start around 9 A.M. on Thursday, March 17, weather permitting.
The transformer will travel south on Route 155 to Route 6, turning right onto Route 6 and then travel west on Route 6 until it reaches Pierce Brook Road. It will then travel north to the Pierce Brook Substation site.
The transformer will be transported on a dual-lane trailer that will take up both lanes of Route 155 and Route 6. This will require a full road closure of Route 155 from north of Port Allegany to Route 6 and a full closure of Route 6 from the Route 155 intersection to Pierce Brook Road. Drivers should expect significant delays and are encouraged to find alternate routes through this area. Movement of the transformer is expected to take about eight hours.
Roadway message boards will be in place prior to this activity to alert drivers of the coming closures and traffic delays. Pennsylvania State Police will accompany the transport to enhance safety.
