Jerri Buchanan, of DuBois, Clearfield County, announced she is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 25th State Senate seat in the primary election April 26th. Buchanan, a teacher, mother, grandmother and invested community member challenges long-time incumbent Joe Scarnati, President Pro Temp of the State Senate, holding him largely responsible for the gridlock in Harrisburg.

“Just like many of my friends and neighbors, I have become more and more irritated with state government and how ineffective it has become” said Buchanan. “We simply have to make this about people and compromise, not politics.”

A teacher in the DuBois School District for the last decade, Jerri sees the effect on children and our communities resulting from cuts to education and the legislature’s inability to pass an honest balanced budget in a timely manner. As senator, Buchanan will fight for our children, families, workers, educators, and the integrity of the public school system as a whole.

“Our kids are our most precious resource and politicians in Harrisburg use them as pawns in their political game. We need to send Harrisburg a message, enough is enough", she said. “Harrisburg, in not doing their jobs, continues to hurt all Pennsylvanians, from our children to our seniors—having no budget impaired vital services to our communities. Their lack of productivity also meant that other important pieces of legislation were not being discussed.” As our State Senator, she will bring a new face with an open mind to issues plaguing citizens and the political process as a whole to Harrisburg.

Jerri is a graduate of Clarion University. She and her husband Larry, a local restaurant manager, have three children. The oldest daughter and son-in-law reside in St. Mary’s, Elk County.

Jerri asks all Democrats to write in JERRI BUCHANAN for Senator of the General Assembly, 25th District so that we have a choice in the general election. The 25th District covers all of Jefferson, McKean, Elk, Cameron, Clinton, Potter and Tioga counties, as well as the DuBois Area School District portion of Clearfield County.
