Potter County Farmers' Market To Meet Tuesday On 2016 Plans; Consider Change In Hours

A meeting to put the finishing touches on plans for the 2016 Potter County Farmers' Market will be held on Tuesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Coudersport Public Library.

At this meeting, participating vendors will be considering a change in the operating hours for the weekly market. Currently the market is held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. The group will decide on Tuesday whether to change the hours to 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. to accommodate requests from folks who wish to stop after work.

If you would like to weigh in on this decision, please feel free to offer your comments here.

New vendors are welcome to come to this meeting to learn more about opportunities to join the Market. Participants must live within a 50-mile radius of Coudersport. Products must be grown or produced locally. Call 814-274-8004 or email metzgerfarm@gmail.com for more information.

How about Saturdays, that's when it was always for those who work out of town, and people coming to camps

I guess being there most of the day is out of the question? I realize those that work need to be accommodated as do those that are retired and may only be able to get to town early in the day. Hopefully they can work something out to satisfy everyone. Perhaps some would like to be there early and others later. The hours are a little inconvenient as they are.

If it has to be Friday it should be later in the day so the people that work can come Saturday morning is the best time for everyone.

How about some hours on Friday and some hours on Saturday? If merchants want to sell their products they will probably adjust.

Why not Saturdays? Saturdays would also give those that work during the week and want to set up in town be able to do so.

With the ever changing society we live in, most people no longer work Mon - Fri, 9 - 5. We have blended the work week to include Saturday and Sunday, "1st, 2nd & 3rd shift work", part-time being the norm, and 10 hour shifts 4 days a week.

So, no mater what the Farmer's market decides, it will inconvenience some people.

When the market was held on Saturday morning, the customers were few and far between. Saturday is a pretty dead day in downtown Coudersport, especially in summer. Friday has been working out pretty good and the later time would let the people who cannot come until after work have a chance to get there before stuff is sold out.

Can't believe that, years ago was good we always sold out, we had 2 pick up truck loads of produce, can goods, bake goods, only brought home the empty baskets.
