Thompson Supports Legislation to Prevent Regulation of Internet Rates

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) voted in favor of the No Rate Regulation of Internet Access Act (H.R. 2666), which forbids the Federal Communications Commission from regulating the retail rates of internet service providers (ISPs). The legislation passed in the House by a vote of 241 to 173.

“Internet rate regulation by the FCC would hurt the service offered by providers, preventing them from offering plans designed for their particular communities or customers,” Thompson said. “The Obama Administration and the FCC have promised not to regulate internet rates – this legislation holds them to their words.”

The legislation leaves in place FCC authority to protect consumers from fraudulent actions and from breach of contract from internet carriers.

The measure now goes to the Senate for consideration.

The Internet should be in the same category as any public utility and be regulated at the same level.

Let's let monopolistic companies charge whatever they want. Way to stand up for capitalism, GT.
