Richard D. “Jocko” Nelson

Richard D. “Jocko” Nelson, age 81 of Knoxville, PA passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at his home. 
US Army veteran

Born August 5, 1935 in Elkland, he was the son of the late Carl and Stella (Miller) Nelson.

Richard joined the US Army in 1956 upon graduating from Elkland Area High School. He worked at the Ingersol Rand in Painted Post, NY for 43 years and was the Deputy game commissioner for a number of years. 

He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and trapping and building fishing poles for family was one of his greatest joys in life.

Richard is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Dianne Snyder Nelson; his daughters and sons in law, Debra and Paul Torok of Westfield and Darlene and Dale Wilson of Salisbury, NC; loving grandchildren, Jeremy Main, Heidi (Michael) Vargeson and Brett (Alisa) Main; his loving great grandchildren, Taylor and Christian Main, Tyler, Makayla and Jordan Vargeson and Braylin and Bryler Main; his sister, Josephine Hurd and many loving nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester A. Nelson.

Family will receive friends at the Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St., Elkland on Monday, June 6th from 12:00 – 2:00 PM with Rev. Larry O’Dell officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in the Fairview Cemetery, Osceola. 

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to a charity of your choice.
