PennDOT Offers Winter Maintenance Jobs
Individuals seeking seasonal employment are encouraged to apply for a variety of winter maintenance positions now open through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The program runs Sept. 1 through March 31 and includes positions for transportation equipment operators, diesel mechanics, radio dispatchers, clerk typists, welders and tradesman helpers. Individuals in these positions supplement the permanent workforce and have the potential to lead to permanent full-time employment.

Additional details about the positions, along with the job application, are available at Click on “Job Classifications” and then go to “PennDOT Winter Program.” The deadline to apply is Friday, Aug. 12.
Update: ATV, Clean and Green Bills Now Law
Legislation highlighted in last week’s email about ATV trail development and the state’s Clean and Green program were both signed into law this week.

Act 89 of 2016 aims to ensure the Clean and Green program works as it was intended by prohibiting counties from taxing properties in the program at a rate greater than fair market value. This has been especially problematic in counties with high-quality timber because it was driving up the use values of the land, leading to higher, rather than lower, tax bills for Clean and Green property owners. This law takes effect immediately.

Act 97 of 2016 aims to boost trail development and ensure fairness in the collection and distribution of ATV and snowmobile funds in the Commonwealth by directing the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to maintain separate ATV management and snowmobile management accounts and prohibiting the agency from using money from one fund on activities related to the other fund, except for joint-use trails. This law will take effect in 60 days.
