The latest news from the State Capitol
Senior Citizens - I am partnering with Life and Independence for Today (LIFT) to host a Disability and Aging Resource Expo on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Johnsonburg Fire Hall, 99 Clarion Road, Johnsonburg.

This is our third annual expo, and we have even more local and statewide service providers participating than last year. The expo is a great opportunity for senior citizens and their families, as well as members of our community living with disabilities, to check out all that is available to them. It’s also a chance for LIFT to display the various services they perform in Elk County and the surrounding six-county region.

LIFT was established in 1987 by people with disabilities and serves as a Center for Independent Living (CIL). In addition to providing independent living skills training, they can assist with advocacy issues and offer peer mentoring services, information and referrals.

Various types of health screenings will also be performed during the expo. Admission is free and lunch will be served.
Yes, it is summer….
but PennDOT is thinking ahead and hiring winter maintenance positions, including CDL equipment operators and diesel mechanics.

If you are interested in submitting an application, please visit, click on “Job Classifications” and then go to “PennDOT Winter Program.”
On the Road Again - The Route 53/Morrisdale Allport Highway bridge over Emigh Run in Morris Township is now open to traffic. The bridge construction, which began a few weeks ago, has resulted in a longer and wider crossing that its predecessor.

You will encounter a shoulder closure for a short time while the remainder of the construction activities are completed.
PennDOT has re-opened the Rolling Stone Road bridge over Browns Run in Kylertown. A detour had been in place for the last two weeks.
While traffic is allowed to pass over the bridge, some construction work will continue through next week so flaggers will be needed to alternate traffic as necessary
I recently had the honor of meeting retired Marine Sgt. Maj. Todd Parisi and Marine Sgt. Liz Dollinger of St. Marys. Dollinger is a pioneer and leader as one of the first-ever female mortarmen in the Marine Corps.

She recently received a commendation for her participation in a recent groundbreaking integrated task force that explored additional roles that females in the military can fulfill. Thank you for your leadership Sgt. Dollinger.
