Seven area nonprofit organizations receive community foundation grants

OLEAN, N.Y, July 1, 2016 — Seven area nonprofit organizations recently received a total of $2,276 in grants from three different donor-designated funds at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

The Paul and Mary Janowicz Fund provided three grants of $150 each to three organizations selected by the fund advisors. The recipient organizations were the Great Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center Fund at the Olean General Hospital Foundation and the Olean Public Library.

This fund also provides scholarships to graduating seniors at Ellicottville Central School. Paul and Betty Hanson of Olean established the fund in 2014 in memory of Betty’s parents, Paul and Mary Janowicz.

The Kothari Family Endowment Fund, which also provides scholarships to students entering health care fields of study, made possible a $1,000 grant to the Olean General Hospital Foundation and a $250 grant to the Olean Food Pantry.

Drs. Ashok and Yogi Kothari of Allegany established this endowment in 2007.

The Beth Todd Memorial Fund provided $576 to Cancer Services of Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties. Beth’s husband, Greg Todd, established the fund with the foundation in 2013 after Beth succumbed to a 13-year battle of breast cancer. Since its establishment, the fund has supported area cancer patients in memory of the Portville native.

“Our donor-designated endowed funds provide annual, perpetual support to the nonprofit organizations selected by the donors,” said Karen Niemic Buchheit, CRCF executive director. “Through this grant process these organizations can count on this support to help with operations or special projects each and every year.”

Established in 1994, the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation is growing good by connecting donors to the causes they care about most in the region. Grants from the foundation support many areas, including education, scholarships, health care, the arts, community development, human service, and youth development.
