The 22nd Annual Tioga County Sportsmen For Youth Field Day is Saturday, Aug. 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ives Run Recreation Area on Hammond Lake, 12 miles north of Wellsboro via Route 287. It is a free event.

As of Monday, Aug. 8, 117 of the 180 available openings were filled, meaning an additional 63 youth, ages 8 to 14, from Tioga County and surrounding areas can register to participate.

Youth Field Day is conducted by a coalition of concerned sportsmen and women, sportsmen’s clubs, local businesses and state and federal agencies that have joined together to provide a day of outdoor adventure and learning experiences for area youth.

Through this cooperative effort, the youth attending will have the opportunity to learn about the many facets of the outdoor sports world, such as archery, trapping, and hunting through closely supervised hands-on demonstrations and learning sessions. Every participant will have the experience of shooting a firearm and fishing.

The picnic-style lunch will feature hot dogs, sauerkraut, baked beans, chips and cupcakes. The lunch and an event T-shirt and hat will be provided free-of-charge to each youth attending. Participants are required to wear the T-shirt and hat throughout the day.

A parent and/or legal guardian must be on-site for involved youth.

When registering for specific events, make sure the youth meets the age requirement for each one.

Visit https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/79822 or register by visiting the Pennsylvania Game Commission website at /www.pgc.pa.gov/, click on "Education" then "Youth Programs" and "Field Day Registration."
