Howard A Heggenstaller

Howard A Heggenstaller, 95, of Germania, PA, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. 

Born May 22, 1921 in Emporium, PA, he was a son of the late Clyde, D. and Sadie (Diehl) Heggenstaller. 

He was a graduate of Sugar Valley High School. 

WWII Veteran

Howard was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific Theatre as a combat engineer and demolition expert. 

On April 24, 1942 in Provencal, LA, he married the former Katie C. Alford who preceded him in death. 

Howard worked as a coal miner, a gas well driller, and finally a flagstone cutter. He owned and operated Heggenstaller Flagstone for over 40 years in Germania. 

He was a member of the Galeton Masonic Lodge #602, the Coudersport Consistory, and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

Howard is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Ann) Heggenstaller, Easley, SC, Bruce (Barbara) Heggenstaller, Fernandina Beach, FL, and Dean Heggenstaller, Galeton, PA; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Claude Heggenstaller, Arlington, VA; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents and his wife, Howard was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. 

Friends may call at the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton, on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 6:00-8:00pm with a Masonic Service at 7:30pm.and on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 10:00-11:00am. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am with the Rev. Dennis Crumb officiating. Interment will be made in Germania Cemetery. 

 Military Honors will be accorded by the Potter County Honor Guard. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Germania Cemetery Association in care of the Hess Funeral Home, 14 West Street, Galeton, PA 16922.
