Rain, Rain we waited for you so long, that heading into winter, we find you dreary. So says the poet in me. There are many things happening around the area in the next ten days hopefully you get out to enjoy some of them. 

I stopped in at the third Thursday Ecumenical Lunch at the Methodist Church yesterday and enjoyed visiting with friends and hearing Father Tom speak from St. Teresa’s Parish. Great fellowship, the next will be on Nov. 10th at noon. 

If you haven’t made it yet there are five count them 5 more fish fries at the Masonic Hall 4:00-7:00 pm., they are awesome for $9.00, take out available.

AT THE SCHOOL: Elementary School: The kids will be celebrating ‘Red Ribbon Week; YOLO Be Drug Free” E.P.T.O. Little Caesar’s Pizza Delivery 4-7 pm. on Wednesday. Thursday is the end of the first marking period. Halloween Parade is at 8:30 am on Monday October 31st.
Middle School & High School: Thursday is the end of the first marking period. The 4th, 5th and 6th Grade Girls volleyball at the High School Gym 9:30-11:30 on Saturday October 22 & 29th. Girls Volley Ball: Tuesday, 25 @ 6:00 JV at home against Northern Potter, Varsity plays at 7:00. Friday, Oct. 27: Boy’s Junior High football vs Elk county Catholic at Otto Eldred 6:00 pm. Girls Junior high volleyball @ Otto Eldred Jr/ Sr 6:00 p.m. Girls Junior High Cross Country: Sat. 22, 2016 at Kane Middle School CC championship Girls race: 10 am, boys race 10:40 am. Saturday Oct. 29: Boys Girls Varsity Cross Country Meet- District IX Championship TBA.

AT THE OV SENIOR CENTER: Monday October 24: Chicken Florentine; “Peace Day” Fitness & Wii. Tuesday: October 25: Beef Stroganoff: “Be A Good Neighbor Day” Wii and the Quilters meet. Wednesday, October 26: “National Candy Corn Day”, Bingo, Wii. Come and join them any day for lunch or just stop by and visit Call 814-697-7178 to make a lunch reservation. 

What is coming up at the center: Nov. 3rd and 4th quilt show, basket bonanza, Nov. 26th Shop Small, Shop Local 10AM-2PM. Home based businesses will be inside. You'll be looking for mice for the festival contest. Our businesses will be donating prizes for drawings when our mice contest is done!!! Mark your calendars and be sure to pop in for your Christmas shopping needs! Dec. 3rd Breakfast with Santa 9AM-11AM.

AT THE LIBRARY: Library Board meeting 4:00 October 24, 2016. The Wednesday Afternoon Book Club will meet Wednesday, October 26 at 1:30 p.m. they are reading, a variety of books written by Dana Stabenow an Alaskan author. The knitting group meets 6:00 at the library setting room, all types of fiber artists welcome.

Portville Central School Drama Club Presents “JUNGLE BOOK” Friday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. Portville Central School auditorium. Tickets are $5.00 adults and $3:00 students/senior citizens.

I always look forward to reading this Monica's writings. Felt bad when the Leader didn't want to print her writings anymore. This lady is now in a MUCH better place.
