First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, 11-20-16

First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, 11-20-16
by Martha Pennell,

The following supplies are welcome in either church kitchen for GalePride after school program: drink boxes, snack items, paper plates, napkins, Clorox wipes, peanut butter and jelly, fruit and veggies. Monetary donations toward food and staples for the program can be made at the business office of Shop-n-Save.

Nominating Committee of First Presbyterian church meets after worship Sunday, November 27th.

Sallie and Slim Bonniger provided testimony through several of their original songs during worship. Sallie told us they sing for God, giving thanks to him, they do not consider themselves entertainment. The scripture behind their music, according to Sallie, is 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 (rejoice always) and 18 (in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you).

The saxophone is played by Sallie intermittently between her vocals while Slim plays the guitar; the instruments complement each other as do their pleasing, harmonizing voices.

Proverbs 3: 5-6 (trust in the Lord with all your heart, acknowledge him, he will make your paths straight) inspired “The Lighthouse.” Some of the lyrics are, “Jesus is the lighthouse from the rocks of sin; he has shined a light around me.

I can clearly see if it wasn’t for the lighthouse, where would this ship be? If it wasn’t for the lighthouse my ship would be no more, I thank God for the lighthouse I owe my life to him for.” Sallie and Slam’s special music exemplified today’s Thanksgiving scripture, Psalm 100: 1-5, shout with joy before the Lord, O earth! Obey him gladly; come before him, singing with joy.

God made us – we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Give thanks to him and bless his holy name, for God is always good!
