First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 12-25-16

First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 12-25-16

by Martha Pennell,

To celebrate Pastor Tom and Pat Shatto’s 50th wedding anniversary, there will be a combined worship service January 8th, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church with a luncheon to follow. Meat and cake will be provided. Bring a dish to pass; sign-up sheets are on the office door of each church.

Pastor Tom captioned today’s scriptures.

Isaiah 52: 7-10, is a snapshot of Isaiah’s ministry as prophet to the people of Israel to see beyond destruction and isolation. Isaiah told them God will act to restore wherever there is desolation. Pastor Tom said it can be an individual life, too.

The psalmist (Psalm 98) reminded people fairness, justice, love, and understanding will be restored. Let us sing and shout and blow horns and pound things! Pine Creek roll along and Germania hill clap your hands! Aspen quake and birds sing when God restores desolation. Everything is singing together and praising God.

The apostle Paul wrote to the Hebrews (1: 1-4), telling them Jesus was at the beginning, God’s created to get things started, and he continues to hold all things together.

John spent time with Jesus, and uses “word” to describe God’s created activity as Jesus (John 1: 1-14). Through him all things were made. The word was in the world but it did not recognize him. The light shines in the darkness.

Those who believed had the right to be God’s children. Summarizing, in Isaiah God restores desolation. The psalmist wrote the natural world sings and praises the creator. Paul wrote Jesus holds all things together.

The gospel of John gives us opportunity to be children of God. Open the gift and enjoy and live with it! Wow! Christmas!

Excellent post, Martha. So glad your church uses the Word of God (Bible). I hope many people read your words of wisdom and hope.
