Think About It

Stress Got You?
By Pastor B.J. Knefley

As I write this I find myself sitting in a waiting room of a hospital. I am with family and friends of one who is about to undergo a long and tedious operation. There is some fear and apprehension by both the family and the patient. What will the outcome be? Will everything go as plan? What will be the after effects? Will all functions return to normal? How long will recovery take? But we are not the only ones with these thoughts for in this same waiting room are at least forty other people waiting for word of their family member and friend. We all trust the hands of the surgeon, the skills of the anesthesiologist and the helping hands of the nurses and others who are assisting. We sit talking among ourselves, reading, or like me, using our computers to accomplish work.

There is a young lady from California who has come here by herself without family or friends. She stayed in the same guesthouse as we did last night. This morning we could see that she like others was afraid and fearful of the unknown. We had an opportunity to pray and offer her comfort that she gladly accepted. Now she too is in the waiting area waiting for her name to be called, sitting quietly by herself, preoccupied with her thoughts and emotions.

We all handle stress differently. Some are quiet and withdrawn, some fidget, while others pace. Those who are followers of Christ are practicing laying their burdens upon Him with the understanding that He would give them rest. What does this mean and how do we do this under difficult circumstances?

Ultimately it’s about trust and the belief that even in this, there’s a plan. Allow your self to feel what you are feeling while learning and practicing to rest in his presence. It’s all about surrender, surrender to His will, and resting in His strength and ability to take you through the circumstance rather than out of it. Your responses may just be what someone else needs to go through theirs. Think about it.

My Pop Pop always inspired me to think and ponder...I thank him every day for that advice.
