First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 1-8-17

by Martha Pennell,

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14th, at 6 pm at First Presbyterian church for Darlene Perry. Mr. Robert Perry and family invite friends from church and community to join them.

Annual reports are due to Robin Leach by January 23rd; the Presbyterian annual congregational meeting follows worship January 29th.

Pastor Tom and Pat Shatto’s 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated during a combined Shared Ministry worship service today with a luncheon following. They extend a warm “thank you” for joining together to celebrate.

Pastor Roger Wagner told us persons who are respected are guileless in nature. We can trust them to be themselves. No games, no tit for tat. They are authentic.

Young children are authentic, they say what they mean and do not reciprocate if victimized by guile. They are real, themselves.

Among others, Pastor Roger believes our Pastor Tom Shatto to be authentic and guileless.

In his sermon, “Nathanael, naturally,” Pastor Roger said he would like to have met Nathanael, an authentic man who met Jesus (John 1: 43-51). Jesus recognized him as an Israelite without guile. He did not have a false bone in his body.

Jesus can see as we really are. Another dimension to Jesus, according to Pastor Roger, is when we are victimized by guile he feels our pain.

We think of reciprocating tit for tat, but to someone like Nathaniel this is foreign thinking.

God takes care of it.

His vengeance is all throughout the Bible. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord (Romans 12:19).

In due time, justice will be served!

Excellent post, Martha. Sometimes we would like to retaliate when people do wrong to us, but we should leave it in God's hands.

When I think of Darlene Perry, I always picture a beautiful smile.
