Dining with Diabetes is a nationally accredited program for adults with or at risk of developing type-2 diabetes. For less than $5 per session, participants learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple, and tasty and will have the opportunity to sample many recipes. Participants will also obtain skills for living well with diabetes by learning about medications, food label reading, dining out, coping with stress, and important diabetes-related medical tests. Family members and/or friends are also invited to attend the program.

Classes are offered weekly for five weeks, with a three month follow-up. An A1C test, a measure of blood glucose levels ($35 value), and a blood pressure reading will be taken at the first and follow-up classes. Participants are also given incentives such as an exercise DVD, plate method placemat, and a Dining with Diabetes Cookbook.

Classes begin Tuesday, January 17th from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the Penn State Extension office – 7 Water Street in Coudersport. Evening sessions will continue on Tuesday January 24th, 31st and February 7th and 14th. The 3-month follow up class will be Tuesday, April 11th. Cost for the entire program will be $20 per individual and $15 for an additional guest.
