George S. Chavanic

George S. Chavanic, 80, a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, of 50 Heavens Way Road, Marshburg, PA, passed away, Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born April 26, 1936, in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late John and Rose (Valant) Chavanic.

US Army Veteran

Mr. Chavanic was a 1953 graduate of Edwardsville High School. On February 6, 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served with the the 91st AAA Battalion in Beibrich, Germany as a radar operator, He was honorably discharged January 8, 1958.

On April 23, 1960 in St. Peter & Paul Church in Plains, he married Josephine (Gawrych) Chavanic, who died on November 18, 2003.

George had been employed as a production supervisor for Atlantic Richfield at the Beaver Valley Plant, retiring in 1986.

He and his wife moved from Hopewell Twp. to Marshburg in October of 1988. He worked at Top's and for the National Forest Service for a while.

He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, McKean County Rifle Club and the American Legion, Bucktail Post #108 of Bradford.

Surviving are two sons, James (Yvonne) Chavanic, of Hopewell Twp. and Thomas Chavanic, of Cortland, NY, two grandchildren, Jimmy and Rachel Chavanic, one sister Clair Koronkiewicz of Palm Springs CA, and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one grandson Steven, and one brother John.

Family will be receiving friends on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30am in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main St., where a prayers service will be held at 10:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will follow with military honors accorded by members of American Legion Post #108 of Bradford in St. Bernard Cemetery.
