JVB Celebrates 150 Years of Banking

MIFFLINTOWN, PA (February 24, 2017) — The Juniata Valley Bank, also known as JVB, is celebrating their 150th anniversary this year. JVB is one of the oldest financial institutions in Central Pennsylvania and has been locally owned and operated since 1867.

Located in Mifflintown, The Juniata Valley Bank was founded by John J. Patterson and opened for business under the name of Patterson, Pomeroy & Company on August 5, 1867. The Bank’s founders saw a need for a financial institution which could assist an agricultural community as well as all residents of the Juniata Valley.

As a result of their efforts, JVB received its National Charter in 1898.

Starting in the early 1960s, JVB embarked on a number of mergers and construction of new branches to better serve the growing population. By 1967, there were 5 branches operating throughout the Juniata Valley. By 2008, JVB had  increased to 12 Community Offices, along with a Trust and Investment Services Division.

In 2015, JVB grew to 15 Community Offices when it purchased The First National Bank of Port Allegany in McKean and Potter counties. These three new Community Offices, known as JVB Northern Tier, added substantially to JVB’s ability to meet the banking needs of the people of Northern Pennsylvania and has continued to serve the area since that time.

“Community banking has a special meaning to us.” says Marcie Barber, President and CEO. “Our belief in the value of community banking and our ability to successfully execute a community banking business strategy throughout various
regions in Pennsylvania is the essence of how we build that value.”

JVB is a full-service Community Bank offering a wide array of lending and deposit products, as well as Trust and Investment Services with offices throughout the Juniata Valley and Northern Tier.
