Penn State Extension- Strengthening Families Series Begins Tuesday In Shinglehouse

A FREE seven-week series of the Penn State Extension Strengthening Families program will begin Tuesday, February 28th. Sessions will be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesday evenings at the Oswayo Valley Elementary School.

A home-style dinner will be offered from 5:30 to 6:00 pm followed by activities until 8:00 pm. This evidence-based program is open to any family with children ages 10-14 in Potter County.

You do need not be an Oswayo Valley School District resident to participate.

Strengthening Families for Parents and Youth ages 10-14 features family discussions, games and activities to prepare youth for the teen years and help them avoid problems with peer pressure, alcohol, and drugs.

Parents and caregivers will learn what challenges 10-14 year-olds face, how to solve problems with them, and ways to show love and support as well as improve family communications. Youth will learn how to handle frustration, resist peer pressure, and get along with others.

Navigating the pre-teen years can be a challenge for any parent and Strengthening Families can help! Together families will have fun completing activities, solving problems, and discussing what makes each family strong.

Free childcare for younger siblings is available with advanced registration.

The Penn State Extension Strengthening Families series is supported by funding from Potter County Human Services. For more information or to register, please contact Mary Freeman at 274-8540 or mgf17@psu.edu.

Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and the diversity of its workforce.
