There is still time to register for the What She Wrote Playwriting 101 Seminar being given by the Hamilton-Gibson Women’s Project’s this Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Gallery at the Warehouse Theatre at 3 Central Avenue in Wellsboro. It's free.
Learn how to write a 10-minute play, from plot and character development to stage direction and common pitfalls.

“Playwriting 101” participants are also encouraged to register to attend at least one playwriting workshop, also being held in the Warehouse Theatre. The purpose of the workshops is to give new playwrights an opportunity to bring their plays in progress and hear them read out loud with feedback from other attendees. The playwriting workshops are being offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 or Saturday, March 18 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday, April 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. or Saturday, April 22 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Clare Marie Ritter of Blossburg is facilitating the “Playwriting 101” seminar and the playwriting workshops. Since 1997, she has been active in all aspects of Hamilton-Gibson Productions, a community theatre performing arts group based on Wellsboro.

In 2010, Ritter authored a 10-minute play titled “Awaiting Romance” that was selected for production for H-G’s Tales of Tioga Festival of Short Plays. As a festival director and performer, she worked with local writers helping them bring their 10-minute plays to the stage. Most recently, she has begun working with the Hamilton-Gibson Women's Project. “I am excited for this opportunity to work with local women, helping them explore the creative process from concept to written word to producing 10-minute plays,” she said.

Sponsors of the February seminar, the Playwriting Workshops in March and April and the 10-minute play production in October are Keith and Hilma Cooper, Dunkin’ Donuts and Benedict’s Bus Service.

To register for the "Playwriting 101" seminar on Feb.18 and one or more of the playwriting workshops or to volunteer to serve as a reader at the workshops, call Hamilton-Gibson Productions at 570-724-2079 or email

Five women participated in the first two-hour Playwriting 101 Seminar led by Clare Marie Ritter (pictured) on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the Gallery at the Warehouse Theatre. Two of the attendees were from Williamsport and three others from Wellsboro and Covington. The seminar is being offered again on Feb. 18.
