Capitol Update
Friday, March 31, 2017 The latest news from the State Capitol

I enjoyed the opportunity to talk with members of Leadership Potter County earlier this week. Chuck Dillon of Sen. Joe Scarnati’s office, Mike Glazer of Congressman Glenn Thompson’s office and I took questions on a variety of topics, including the divide between urban and rural in the state, advocating for constituents, education opportunities in the area, my EMS legislation and more. This was an impressive group of men and women, and I hope they will take what they are learning in this class and remain active members of our communities!

Water Service Grants Awarded for Driftwood, Smethport

The Commonwealth Financing Authority has approved two grants for public water projects in the area. I was pleased to support these important investments in our communities.

Driftwood Borough was awarded a grant of $203,965 to create a new groundwater source of potable water by reconstructing the filter plant well in Nanny Run to meet public water supply standards. The project will also include new filtering sand for the existing three filter beds located at the slow sand filtration plant.

The Borough of Smethport Authority was awarded a grant of $100,000 toward relocation and replacement of two cast iron water lines that are contributing to poor water quality for customers at the extreme end of the system along Route 59 in Keating Township.

Career Fair for Potter County Juniors, Seniors

The Potter County Education Council will host its annual career and job fair for high school juniors and seniors on Thursday, April 20, from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Norther Potter Field House in Ulysses.

Local and regional businesses, industries and employers of all sizes are invited to meet with local juniors and seniors about job opportunities. They need not have current job openings to participate, just a willingness to help educate youth about potential local careers.

There is no cost for employer participation, but participants are asked to pre-register with Janine Morley at the 814-274-4877 by April 12. More information is available at www.pottercountyedcouncil.org
