Zachary Tyler George, 23, Hornell, NY

Zachary Tyler George

Zachary Tyler George, 23, passed away unexpectedly Monday (April 10, 2017) as a result of a kayaking accident.

Zachary was born on Jan. 26, 1994 in Wellsville to Angela (George) Shelley. From his infancy, he was raised and nurtured by his mother and step-father, Rob Shelley.

Zach worked for Burger King in Hornell.

In addition to his mother and step-father, Angela and Rob Shelley of Blasdell, Zach is survived by a brother, Tye Shelley and a sister, Alexis Shelley, both of Blasdell; his grandparents, Nicholas (Patsy) George of Hornell, with whom he lived with and enjoyed an extremely close relationship, James and Bonnie Wilson of Wellsville and Robert Shelley of Wellsville; his great grandmother, Betty Bastian of Wellsville; his Aunt Christine (Larry Rutkowski) George of Buffalo; his Uncle Nicholas George of Nevada, Uncle Mark George of Hornell, Uncle Ronald George of Ithaca, Uncle Chris Shelley of Olean, Uncle Tyler Shelley of Texas and Uncle James Wilson of Andover; and many cousins, including a special cousin, Holly George.

Zach loved the outdoors. His favorite pastime was fishing, especially if it included spending the day with his Grandpa George. He and his grandfather often went to Canada together to enjoy their favorite fishing spot. In his quiet alone time, he liked to play video games.

Zach also had a zest for life. He faced a lot of challenges, both personal and public and through those struggles, he grew and matured into the young man his family and friends loved. As a result, he learned to appreciate the important things in life and to live life to the fullest.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-6 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-3 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Marc Chamberlain of Genesis Bible Church in Scio, officiating. Burial will be in Valley Brook Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Zach’s name may be made to Andover Wetlands Kids Fishing Contest, PO Box 342, Andover, NY 14806.
