Bridge Replacement Near Chrystal To Close Eleven Mile Road In Potter County Starting June 15th

Box Culvert Replacement Set to Start June 15 in Potter County. Detour will be in place June 15 through July 7.

Coudersport, PA – Beginning June 15, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be working to replace a box culvert on Eleven Mile Road (Route 4023) in Oswayo Township, Potter County. The box culvert spans Eleven Mile Creek near the village of Chrystal. Replacement work will require closing the bridge and a detour will be in effect for the duration of the project, June 15 through July 7.

Official detour signing will direct drivers to use Routes 4023 (Eleven Mile Creek Road), 4025 (Brizzie Hollow Road), 244, and 44. PennDOT will re-open the box culvert and roadway before July 7 if work progress allows.

Replacement will allow PennDOT to remove the bridge from Potter County’s structurally deficient list and remove the weight postings of 27-tons for single vehicles and 28-tons for combination vehicles. The current 25-foot box culvert dates from 1931 and carries an average of 250 vehicles daily.

The project will be a cooperative effort between PennDOT Potter County Maintenance and contractor L. C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, New York. Work items will include excavation, removal of the existing box culvert, placement of the new box culvert, back-filling for the new box culvert, concrete work, and paving. All work is weather dependent.

Drivers are reminded to follow detour signing, use caution in and around work zones, and always buckle up.
