First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 6-18-17

by Martha Pennell,

Women’s Bible study meets Wednesday, June 21st, at 3 pm at Saint Paul’s Lutheran church.

Snack items are needed for Traveling Day Camp/Vacation Bible School (beginning July 10th at First Presbyterian church), including juice boxes, small bags of chips/pretzels, and fruit cups. Items may be placed in either church kitchen.

Pastor Roger told us in his sermon “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so…” God overlooks bad theology, but we must account for what we believe. He quoted Scottish minister William Barclay, “Exclusiveness is hard to unlearn, but God is not nearly as exclusive as I thought.”

In 2 Samuel chapter eight, David struck hard at the Philistines but spared one-third of them, provided they paid him tribute. God allowed and tolerated it because David was faithful to his worldview, although he did hold him accountable for his behavior with Bathsheba.

Jesus often referred to his followers as “my little children,” so latitude is given. We will not be held accountable for what we do not know (Romans 2: 12-16).

Recently returning from a trip out west, Pastor Roger noted the American Indians prioritize silence and introspect. Mormons have transformed desert land to spectacular beauty and are very polite to outsiders.

We could learn a lot from them. Jesus said (John 10: 14-16), “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear my voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.”

Pastor Roger pointed out all societal agencies show wear and tear. Will they turn to the church?

“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” God’s love will carry the day.
