Mame performance are this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Mame (Penny Eckman) arrives home in time to save her nephew Patrick Dennis (Jacob Ritter) from an ill-conceived romance.
Penny Eckman as Auntie Mame can “coax the blues right out of the horn.” Performances of Hamilton-Gibson’s lavish production of this lively musical comedy are at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 22, 23 and 24 and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 25 in Straughn Auditorium on the Mansfield University campus. Director is Thomas Putnam.

The madcap life of eccentric Mame Dennis and her bohemian, intellectual arty clique is disrupted when her 10-year-old nephew Patrick (Hayne Webster) is entrusted to her care. Rather than bow to convention, Mame introduces the boy to her freewheeling lifestyle.

Mame’s fortunes improve when she meets and marries Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside (Noyes Lawton), a Southern aristocrat with a Georgia plantation. After traveling the world with him, she returns home a wealthy widow, just in time to intervene in Patrick’s (Jacob Ritter, Patrick as a young man) ill-conceived romance.

Vera Charles (Theresa Delmotte) is Mame's best friend and Agnes Gooch (Nikki York) is her personal secretary and nanny-in-law.

Musically the show is packed with Jerry Herman songs that are in perfect accord with the whole positive attitude of the story, and includes what is probably the most memorable title song ever written. Besides “Mame,” musical favorites include “Bosom Buddies” and “We Need a Little Christmas.”

Admission on June 22 and 23 is $18 for adults and $7 for children and full-time students of any age; on June 24, $12 for adults and free for full-time students and June 25, Pay-What-You-Can donation. For tickets, visit www.hamiltongibson.org, 570-724-2079 or hamgib@gmail.com.
