Announcing New Board Members

The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers is pleased to announce the addition of two new board members to the Board of Directors: Frank Comfort and Tom Shoemaker. The Board provides leadership for carrying out the Foundation’s mission to promote philanthropy across Bradford, Sullivan Potter and Tioga PA counties and Tioga County NY. Benjamin R. Olney will serve as Chairman of the 2018 Board of Directors, Frank Comfort as Vice Chair, Marty Borko as Treasurer and Wanda Shirk as Secretary.

Frank Comfort
Frank was born and raised in Harrisburg, PA and now lives in Eagles Mere, PA. He graduated from Syracuse University in ‘67 and from the University of North Carolina with a Master’s Degree in Education in ‘68. He was Head Coach of Swimming at Johns Hopkins University for 9 years and at UNC for 30 years. He is active in several Sullivan County and regional boards as well as School of Education boards at Syracuse and UNC. He has three children both graduates of UNC and two grandchildren. He serves as a volunteer coach for strength training for boys and girls basketball players at Sullivan County High School as well as the assistant boys’ basketball coach.

Tom Shoemaker
Tom was born April 16, 1951 in Kingston, PA. His family moved to Dushore, PA in the early 1950s after his father bought a veterinary practice in Sullivan County. Tom grew up in Dushore, and graduated from Sullivan County High School. He attended and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked for nearly 45 years in the aviation industry in various capacities, retiring in 2016 as a Captain at Piedmont Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines. He presently does contract in aviation education in Charlotte, NC. He is a member of the Eagles Mere – Laporte Lions Club. Tom has been married to his wife Jan for 41 years, and they have two grown sons. They live near Muncy Valley, PA

Founded in 2003, the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers serves 5 counties, Bradford, Potter, Sullivan and Tioga Counties, PA and Tioga County, New York. The Foundation is committed to building philanthropic resources that will sustain healthy and vital communities now and into the future. The Foundation currently manages over 90 funds valued at over $5 million dollars and has awarded over $850,000 in grants and scholarships since inception, positively impacting hundreds of lives in the region.
