Bill Pekarski: Day 305, Living life on my terms

Bill Pekarski:
Day 305, Living life on my terms.

I have to tell you folks something; Galeton fireworks are great, but the show sponsored by Roulette Station 46 fire department was outstanding. The town was not congested, children could be seen with sparklers and other colorful trinkets throughout town, and many people were able to enjoy a fantastic show from their own yard.

My wife’s little sister and her family recently moved to a house on Main Street in Roulette. Their house is right beside the open field where the pyrotechnics are set off providing an optimal place to sit for the show.

Originally they said that some people were going to come down to see the fireworks from their place when I suggested that we could bring down burgers and dogs. Well, by the power of my suggestion we had salads, chips, drinks, and a nice big old fashion fireworks cook-out. We had a bunch of children running around having a blast with glow-sticks and sparklers, while a bunch of us adults got the chance to sit around and visit.

I got to see George and Eunice Hults who have always been good friends and asked how I have been doing as well as Punk and Linda Davis. All of them were excited to see me out and about and doing so well. I told them that the only thing really holding me back was a tank of oxygen that I still need and my low endurance, but every day I get a little bit better.

George and Eunice’s Daughter Tammy was also very happy to see me out tonight. She was one of the people who would stop regularly into Sheetz to ask my wife how I was doing. I told her that I am really starting to feel a little bit like my old self again.

Another person who brought her children down to enjoy the fireworks was Theresa Welsh. I asked her where her husband Bryan was and she said he stayed in Coudersport to set up shelves of old books for their new store downtown. The store will feature old books as well Theresa’s art studio. She has been offering painting parties in the area for quite a while now and hopes to continue to grow her business with a downtown presence.

Sunday she is having a “Dark Skies” paint and sip party where everyone in attendance will be instructed how to do their own painting on a 12” x 16” canvas. She is having two sessions tomorrow and according to her, spaces filled in very quickly. She normally averages about 20 people per session. “Men and women both seem to enjoy creating art and it makes for an outstanding opportunity to get out of the house and do something different and fun,” she explained.

I am hoping to have her come to my home so I can invite people to come up and do a private painting party there. Even though she has the store, it is vital to her business to still maintain the private parties and bookings. I do plan to do a more in depth story on their store before their official Grand Opening.

Beth and I also thought it would be good idea to bring Bob Smith (Smitty) down to see the fireworks tonight as well. When we left he commented exuberantly about how amazing it was that a small town like Roulette could put on such a wonderful show. I have to agree, it was stupendous, and our food was pretty good too!

Having such an eclectic group of people sitting around a fire with all of the cook-out food and kids running around, it was reminiscent of the old fashion block parties people used to throw in the 50’s and 60’s. Also, I should mention that the full moon and a clear night sky made for an outstanding view throughout the entire event.

Now the burgers and dogs were great, but I told Beth when we got home that anytime we have a gathering at our house and her little sister and family are coming, they can feel free to bring the BLT salad. I had never had it before tonight but let me tell you, it was pretty darn good. After I finished my first plate, I said to Beth that I could eat another hot dog and feel free to load me up with more of that salad!

Today I am dedicating my progress to the Roulette Station 46 Fire Department for their outstanding fireworks display as well as Leola and Jed Davis for being gracious hosts for an impromptu cook-out that became a huge success.
