First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 7-9-17

by Martha Pennell,

Germania Luncheon club meets Wednesday, July 12th, at Saint Paul’s Lutheran church.

Women’s Bible study meets there Wednesday, July 19th, at 3 pm.

Shared Ministry Picnic is planned for Sunday, July 23rd, at Mark and Lisa Smith’s Upland Farm Lodge. We will meet at Galeton School at 9:30 am to car pool there. Meat and drinks are provided, bring a dish to pass.

Pastor Tom’s sermon, “The Jesus Yoke,” was based on Matthew 11: 29-30 (“take my yoke and learn from me, the yoke I give you is easy”).

He told us Jesus opens the window for us to see God things with head knowledge and heart knowledge. We use head knowledge to make things and to remember what happened in the past.

But, Jesus teaches he is God’s eternal knowledge going to another dimension, heart knowledge. Jesus tells us to take his yoke and learn from him. Love and praise God, Lord of heaven and earth; the end of life is to glorify him forever.

Hang out with God and enjoy him.

Pastor Tom told us to team with Jesus through worship, communion, prayer, and singing. Our spiritual burdens are lifted; there are new beginnings and fresh starts.

We should adopt Jesus’ pattern of living for ours because he is the divine master. He has experienced things we go through and invites us to join him. He wants us to get into his yoke and be involved for the joy of it.

When we pattern ourselves after him we lift heavy burdens for those being dragged down until healing happens. We enjoy head knowledge, but are growing in heart knowledge.

Get into the yoke with Jesus. Lord, help us to find a spot in Jesus’ yoke!

Good lesson. Reminds me of another yoke. The Ox Yoke! There are rumors it is being sold and will be reopened. Martha or somebody is that true?

Thank you, Martha. I look forward to your posts every week.

I, too, hope the Ox Yoke opens again.
