James S. Smith, 87, Willow Creek, PA

James S. Smith

James S. Smith, 87, a loving and devoted father and grandfather, of Willow Creek, passed away, peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, July 30, 2017, at The Pavilion at BRMC.

Born April 15, 1930, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Lawrence A. and Margaret (Armstrong) Smith, Sr.

Jim was a 1949 graduate of Bradford High School, and attended Clarion University. He began working with his father in 1949 at McQuilkin Plumbing & Heating. Jim retired in 2010 and turned over the business to his son, Andy.

On February 9, 1957, in Bradford, he married Joan D. (Dunahay) Smith who died February 25, 1993.

Jim served as an auditor and also as the secretary and treasurer for Corydon Township. He was a Republican Committeeman.

He was a member of St. Bernard Church, the Elks Club, the Barbershop Quartet in Olean. He was a member and former board member of the Bradford Gun Club.

Jim helped coach for his children's Little League Baseball and the Girls Softball League at West Branch. He was an assistant Boy Scout Leader.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and trout fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are three children, one son, Andrew J. (Cheryl) Smith, of Bradford, two daughters, Amy S. (Harold) Leach, of Jamestown, and, Lydia P. (Edward) Olechna of Hamilton, VA, 6 grandchildren, Luke Smith, Abby Smith, Haley Smith, Holly Leach, Maxwell Olechna and Ava Olechna, 3 great grandchildren, Braydon Fouser, Sophia Smith, and Noah Smith, a brother Lawrence A. Smith, Jr. of Bradford, his faithful beagle dog Matty, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife.

Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main Street, where prayers will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to St. Bernard Church or the McKean County SPCA.
