US House Set To Cut $100 Million From Older Workers Employment Program

The United State House of Representatives draft appropriations bill proposes to cut $100 million from the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). This is a 25 percent cut and will mean paychecks for nearly 15,000 older workers will stop on July 1, 2018. Host agencies across the country are also at risk of losing the free labor they depend on from SCSEP participants.

For over 50 years, SCSEP has successfully helped older Americans return to the workforce through paid, on-the-job training assignments at local organizations or public agencies like yours. Local organizations benefit from the experience, expertise, and skills of older workers who train through SCSEP. In addition, our communities are strengthened by the training hours performed and the paychecks earned by local SCSEP participants.

The SCSEP represents a win-win-win for older workers, community organizations, employers, and communities. If you’re organization is interested in being a part of the effort to tell Congress that the SCSEP should not be cut, please sign onto the SCSEP Letter of Support.

The deadline for your organization to sign on is tomorrow - Friday, July 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern.

Thanks for your help from a SCSEP supporter,

Keep up the good work trump. They can get a real job

Totally worthless program, it needs to go away completely.

Let the older people retire and give the jobs to the younger generation with family's .

Some people through no fault of their own need those jobs. Busch, Adelphia, Obama, The Great Ressesion, Trump, etc, has ruined even the best of intentions for a comfortable retirement.

How many younger generation really want to work, too busy on their electronics, sorry but you can hardly find one that wants to mow lawns or even shovel snow,
The older folks can't AFFORD to retire!!!!!

You have MORE older folks working than the younger generation, most of them on welfare, free medical, HUD, food stamps, etc, so stop criticizing the older folks working, "We CAN NOT RETIRE DUE TO THE FACT WERE PAYING FOR ALL THE YOUNGER ONES WHO CHOOSE NOT TO WORK, IT'S EASIER FOR THEM TO LIVE OFF THE SYSTEM WITH THEIR FAMILIES !!!!
