Coudersport Vol. Fire Dept. Reports On Ice Mine Road House Fire

As of 12/30/17 21:02 2017-00043441 STRUCTURE FIRE, 158 ICE MINE RD, SWEDEN TWP BOX 48-05 FOR SMOKE IN THE STRUCTURE.

AT 21:11 A.C. Tim Haskins ARRIVED ESTABLISHED COMMAND AND REPORTED THAT 1/2 OF THE RESIDENCE WAS INVOLVED AND REQUESTED A SECOND ALARM ASSIGNMENT.

DUE TO THE STEEP SNOW COVERED DRIVEWAY 1200' OF 5" HOSE WAS LAID UP THE DRIVE BY ENGINE 48-2(4x4-900 GAL) AND WAS SUPPLIED BY TANKER 48-5(3500 GAL.) ENGINE 48-1(1000 GAL.).

DUE TO THE WELL DEVELOPED FIRE WHICH WAS BEING DRIVEN BY HIGH WINDS AND DUE TO OURS/OTHER RESPONDING UNITS PUMPS/LINES BEING FROZEN IN THE COLD FRIDGID TEMPERATURES CREWS WERE WITHOUT WATER FOR A PERIOD OF TIME.

WATER WAS ESTABLISHED ONCE AGAIN AND CREWS EXTINGUISHED THE REMAINDER OF THE FIRE UTILIZING A TANKER SHUTTLE WITH TWO SEPARATE FILL LOCATIONS NEARBY.

THE HOME OWNERS WERE HOME ASLEEP AT THE TIME OF THE BLAZE, THEY HEARD SOMETHING AND SMELLED/SEEN SMOKE COMING FROM THE BASEMENT WHEN THEY INVESTIGATED. THEY CONTACTED 911 AND SUMMONED FAMILY MEMBERS AND ESCAPED THE BLAZE. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES.

THE WHOLE HOUSE AND CONTENTS ARE A TOTAL LOSS - ESTIMATED AT $350,000.AND ALSO DAMAGE TO A NEARBY GARAGE.

DUE TO THE EXTENT OF THE FIRE THE CAUSE HAS BEEN RULED UNDETERMINED IN NATURE.

ASSISTED AT THE SCENE BY - PORT 3, ROULETTE 46, AUSTIN 44, GALETON 10, ULYSSES 47, CVAA WHILE SMETHPORT STATION 2 STOOD BY AT OUR STATION WHILE OTHER DEPTS. COVERED OUR MUTUAL AID ASSISTING AGENCIES - CDSPT APPARATUS WAS PLACED BACK IN SERVICE AT APPROXIMATELY 03:30am 12/31/17.

THE OWNERS HAVE BEEN PLACED IN TOUCH WITH THE RED CROSS AND ARE STAYING WITH FAMILY MEMBERS AT THIS TIME.

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR MUTUAL AID COMPANIES FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE IN THIS EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES AS WELL AS OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO THE FAMILY WHO HAVE SUFFERED THIS GREAT LOSS OF THEIR HOME AND BELONGINGS.
